do we need to go to embassy together

I am applying for US tourist visa this month.One of my friend wants to come along with me(she is a British Citizen so does not need US visa).
We are planning to visit Florida together for 6 days. The day I have interview appointment, do I need to take her with me to the US embassy since I have to mention who is travelling with me. Though, on website it does say only applicant will be allowed to enter embassy. My question is ....mentioning that she is travelling with me (in DS 156 form) and that we are staying in hotel together, will it affect my application in anyway. Please suggest!
