UK Nationality Application - General Queries

Post by sibaji » Wed Jul 30, 2014 5:35 pm

Dear Friends,

I am an Indian national, currently on ILR for over 18 months now. I am now filling-in my British Citizenship AN form and would be grateful if the experts on this forum kindly provide some guidance on the below:

(1) Where can I find my UKBA or Home Office Reference Number ?

(2) My wife and I have been separated for around 3 years, but not yet legally divorced.

In my situation, is it mandatory to provide my wife's details ?

What is the difference between "legal separation" and "divorced" ?

(3) On Section 1.22 of the AN form, they are seeking information on Sufficient English Knowledge.

Although I have the original letter from my Indian University stating that the 4-year engineering degree course was taught in English, but on this occasion The Home Office is apparently seeking for an English Test (at B1 CEFR or higher) or UK NARIC certification that my academic degree is deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard.

Please provide some guidance on how to obtain confirmation from the UK NARIC about my academic degree (4-year B.E. Electronics). Will the letter from my university not suffice ?

Look forward to your kind response.

Best regards

Hi sibaji,

I don't have the answer for all the questions but here you go...

1. You can skip the UKBA or Home Office reference number. Are you going to apply via NCS? If yes, they will take care of it.

3. You can apply for NARIC following the link below
http://www.ecctis.co.uk/naric/Individua ... Apply.aspx

I don't have the answer for your second question

Hi man4uni, Please accept my gratitude for taking the time to respond to my queries.

However, based on the NARIC link kindly shared by you, there are 2 distinct services provided:

(1) STATEMENT OF COMPARABILITY (£55.20)

and

(2) ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT SERVICE (£55.20)

Should I have to go for (1) or (2) or both ? Please refer to Home Office requirements on the AN form (page 17, section 2, bullet 3).

Details of NARIC services (1) and (2) are provided below.

Look forward to your kind response.

Best regards,
Sibaji

What is a STATEMENT OF COMPARABILITY ??

The UK NARIC Statement of Comparability is an officially recognised document that confirms the recognition of an overseas qualification and its comparable level in the UK, irrespective of it being an academic, vocational or professional award. It is used by universities, colleges, employers and Government departments and agencies forming part of their decision-making process. A Statement of Comparability can be used to help support applications made under Tiers 1 and 2 of the Points Based System for immigration to the UK.

A Statement of Comparability states, in English, what your overseas qualifications equate to in the UK.

Please note that at UK NARIC we are unable to provide a comparability statement for the grades obtained in your qualifications. It is recommended that you present transcripts directly to potential employers/admitting institutions for consideration on an individual basis in line with specific grade requirements.

What is the ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT SERVICE ?

English is the official language of the United Kingdom. The ability to speak English to a competent level is essential to ensure successful integration and progression in the UK. The English Language Assessment service is available to individuals who need to demonstrate their English language proficiency (Tier 1 and Tier 2) as set out by the Home Office.

There are three ways that you can score points for English language:
•be a national of a majority English speaking country (a country where most people speak English)
•pass an English language test on the Home Office list of approved English language tests
•hold a degree that is assessed by UK NARIC as being taught in English and is equivalent to a United Kingdom Bachelor degree.

How can we help you?

UK NARIC's English Language Assessment provides an assessment and a statement:
•to confirm whether an individual’s approved English language test meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1)
•to confirm whether your degree has been taught in English and meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1).

Hello,

Good evening everybody.

For the purpose of "naturalisation", can someone please respond to my query (above) regarding the need to apply to NARIC for:

1) Statement of Comparability

or

2) English Language Requirement

or

3) Both

Please note that I already have the original letter from my University stating the the degree was taught in English.

Best regards.
