Papfaith,

Congratulations!!!

How much does it take you to get a job?
do the employers appreciate HSMP applicants and are they willing to employ them??
Was it through recruitment agencies or self search?

They gave me a one year contract which will expire 3 months after extension. At extension i will still be working. i think if they see renewal, they will consider permanent basis.
Employers dont know anything about HSMP yet, very few.
It took me one month to get this job. Came in July 16th to UK, started work 24th August.

Can you please give us some tips.
I came in in August from Nigeria.
Employers here keep asking for uk experience.
I am into IT
Please, your tips would be highly appreciated

Thanks

I got the job throuh an agency. It was dramatic. I walked into Manpower recruitment office in Kingston Tolworth and they said they could not help me without looking at my CV. I refused to leave and insisted they look at my CV first, for the next 10 mins i insisted. Then they did and apologised that they will get in touch. a couple of days later i was called to register with them after which i attended the interview with Exxonmobil. My experience in Shell Nigeria fitted with what they were looking for. I got the job. Finally it is God who made it possible.
In one year's time i will have a one year UK experience.
Do not give up. That is why it is good to come in early after approval so you have enough time to search for a job before renewal stage.

hopefulkd,

In which field you are in IT (Networking, programming). Do all employers need UK experience? Do the recruiters refuse to set up a meeting for you with employers??

Papa: Nice to hear that you are settling down. Congrats!!

HopefullKD: few tips-> Be very focussed in your CV, (may be different versions of CV!!) definitely you will get call from consultants. Covering letter is the KEY and pick-up your skills that matches exactly with vacancy. Consultants will help you to do minor changes.

J2EE is having very high demand and domainwise investment banking.

What kind of salaries are on offer ? Do you think they are fair and equivalent or should one necessarily be prepared to be downward compatible

That depends on company. English companies will offer good salaries. Also Wipro/Infosys/MBT/TCS offers near range salaries. For J2EE, daily rate starts with £250 or £36,000 pa.

Thanks for your resposes. I actually havent logged on snce sunday so I didnt see your responses.

It's the agents that often refuse scheduling an interview with the company once they know I'm from Nigeria.

Time factor, my skills are in Java and J2ee. Know any site or job agents that have a track record of securing jobs for IT people?

Speak soon.
