No last name

Post by spring123 » Sun Sep 14, 2014 8:05 pm

Hi

My fiancee will be applying for a family of settled person visa shortly. She only has a first name - i.e. no middle name and no last name. This is consistent on all her documents e.g. current passport, birth certificate, university certificates etc.

Has anyone else had experience of applying for a British visa in such a situation? Does this cause any issues?

I'd be grateful for any guidance.

Thanks

Is it culturally normal from her country?

Well, it's not abnormal for the part of the country she resides in (South India) but it will be for other parts of the country.

I've just noticed that the online application process requires a last name for the creation of the application. This is a bit disconcerting - should I just press the spacebar once to make it a blank last name?

Any guidance appreciated!!

if u have no surname then read the guidance note. because in some of the cases if one person have only one name they can write the same name in last name. while filling online form u will come across that. read the guidance if u r find it.

FYI this was resolved in the end:

Email 1:

Thank you for contacting the UK Visas and immigrations international
enquiry service.

The information on the passport have to match with the application form and
when you complete application form you may copy the first mane in the same
field and mention everything in the additional information box.

Email 2:

Thank you for contacting UK Visas and Immigration international enquiry
service.

With regards to your query, Should you have only a single name - please
fill use the same name in both boxes.

Spring123,

If I were you I would put a explanatory note in the text section about the name just so to avoid the single name not being taken as first and second names! You never know.

good luck.

Yes, I did that. Visa was correctly issued. I just updated this post so that any one else in the same situation has the details of what we did.
