How does Cos reference number look like?

Hello,

My employer is a bit careless (as they are very busy and small firm) but I have previously noticed mistakes in the information they have given me for my Tier 2 application. (for example instead of the CoS start date, they have given me the date on which they have received their licence). I want to double check that the reference number for CoS that they have given me is correct and not a mistake. Can anyone tell me the format of the Cos reference number takes? Maybe how many letters/ numbers it is supposed to be etc?

Fast replies are very appreciated as my visa appointment is for tomorrow.

ask for a printout of the CoS.
If they are reluctant to give it to you point them to para 23.3 of the sponsor guidance:

Dear Alexandras,
Even I am a bit confused about my CoS number and it looks like my HR got confused between letter O and number 0. Could you please verify how your CoS looks like.
Mine is YXY X O XXXXX Y (Where Y are letters and X are numbers). I am concerned because of the letter O between all the numbers at the fifth position. Please confirm how your cos number looks like.

Yeah, the number that my sponsor wrote in the application looks nothing like this. I am so glad I decided to double check.
