Difficulty finding sponsor

I'm a recent graduate from the US looking to stay in the UK, so I'm applying for lots of jobs. In this economy the search has been arduous, but three times I've been denied work because the company refuses to sponsor graduate-roles.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a way to get a work visa that doesn't require a sponsorship or has anyone found ways to convince employers to sponsor them?
