OCI or PIO for my son who was born in UK

Post by prvnrk » Fri Nov 14, 2014 2:04 am

Hello Gurus and friends,

I, my wife & daughter have ILR and my son recently got british passport (he was born in UK, registration also done). Now we need to surrender my son's Indian passport.

Appreciate if anyone answers my below queries:

1. how can I surrender his passport in HCI london? Any useful links/info on application and supporting docs please

2. After we receive surrender certificate, can we apply for PIO or OCI for my son? which is better for him??

3. OR we (my wife, daughter & myself) should wait until we get our naturalization and British passport done then apply for PIO or CIO for all 4 of us at a time?

4. Are 3 of us (my wife, daughter & myself who were born in India) eligible for PIO or OCI? which is better?

Please advise as I have no idea about OCI/PIO etc.

Many thanks!!

The consular section of HCI website is a good place to start --> https://www.hcilondon.in/consular_services.html

Thanks ban.s for the link. I did go through it and other links, my understanding is

1. As my son is not eligible for OCI yet (becoz we parents still didnt get british passport), its better to wait until I, my wife and my daughter get british passport and then apply OCI for all 4 us, Am I right?

2. We need to surrender my son's Indian passport and as soon as possible. We need to get tourist VISA for my son in case we plan to visit India before we get OCI.

Please correct me if I'm wrong in above 2.

THanks

1. You son can apply for PIO now. It's entirely a personal choice to wait until you all are eligible for OCI and apply together. Not much practical benefit as such.

2. Correct.
