Passport for newborn while the ILR appln was under processin

Post by AnuradhaKrishnakumar » Mon Nov 24, 2014 9:44 am

Hello,

I have a query regarding applying passport for my newborn. I have looked to see if there was a post on this before bout couldn't find our exact scenario.

We applied for our ILR visa via postal application in June 2014. our baby was born on August 2014. We received our ILR in November 2014. The issued date on the BRP is 17 November 2014.

Can someone shed light on whether I have to apply for Indian Passport for the baby as we didn't have the ILR during her birth or can we apply for British passport as our ILR was under processing and is also approved now?

I would be grateful for any help regarding this.

Thank you so much in advance.

Kind Regards,
Anuradha Krishnakumar

You will need to register the baby on form MN1 under section 1(3) which is an entitlement as born in the UK. Once registration certificate is received, then you can apply for British passport.

As the baby was born BEFORE you were granted ILR, the baby is not automatically British.

Hi,

I have registered my child using MN1 form as suggested and got her Registration certificate as well but the name in the certificate wasn't correct hence I sent the certificare back to the office requesting correction in the name and also providing photocopy of supporting document (Birth certificate). Its been a month since I posted it through tracked delivery and I can see that it has been received, but I have not yet received the corrected registration document yet.

Can I please know the processing time for such a request and also if there is any way to track the status.

Any help regarding this will be gratefully received.

Thank you so much in advance.

Kind Regards,

As per the MN1 guide, the name appearing on the resitration certificate will only be amended in most exceptional circumstances. Unfortunately, your case is pretty uncommon, and so it is not possible to definitely tell the time frame.
Provided, you send them the child birth certificate with your application, I am really surprised to see how they ended-up printing a certificate with mistake in the name.

For amendments in adult citizenship certificate, follow this thread

It has taken little more than a month for some people to get this done.
So, hopefully you will hear from them very soon.
