Can I travel to Germany with my UK Travel Document?

Post by Vasi » Sun Dec 14, 2014 12:02 pm

Hi Guys

I am a UK Travel Document holder and would like to travel to Germany, within the travel document there is no mention of Germany as valid country to travel without Visa. I was under the impression that, i am able to travel to any European country without having to have a visa.

My question is, has anyone experience this kind of situations before? and what would be the best way to over come this?

Thanks for your help in advance

V

If it is UK emergency travel document then it should be recognisable to German authorities. See: Germany_foreign travel advice.

Which UK travel document do you have? What is your current status in the UK? To the best of my knowledge, only UK citizens has visa-free access to Germany. So, if you are on ILR or LLR (limited leave to remain), you will need to apply for a Schengen visa, which is typically always granted, on the basis of your ILR/LLR.

The ETD (emergency travel document) is issued to UK citizens who have lost their passport abroad and need to travel before a new one can be issued. So, it may or may not apply to you.
