Change in plans after getting visa

Post by jerseyb1 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 11:02 am

Hi,

What happens if you obtain a (French) Schengen, and then due to matters beyond your control (like weather), the weekend trip gets cancelled. If you then fly to a different Schengen entry point (e.g. Netherlands) a week later, will they give you drama if you haven't been to France as first point of entry? Will this have an impact on future Schengen applications?

As a point of interest, am married to an EEA national, but want to play it safe for future travels with him, as I have had difficulty with almost being denied boarding due to staff not being aware of the Directive. Will having a Schengen that hasn't been used in country of issue have an effect on travelling with him, as a non EU spouse travelling with EEA national.

Any help will be appreciated.

It's unlikely there will be any issue at Dutch border. If you obtain a French schengen and never travelled to France there might be issue with future schengen application - as they might treat you as visa shopper. Keep reference of weather issues that led to the cancellation of your france trip for future reference. However it not always possible to determine whether you actually travelled to the country that issued you visa or not - you can very well travel to France by entering though a dutch border. or perhaps plan for an new trip in France.

No issue if you apply for visa as a spouse of an EEA citizen and travel with him/or travel to join him.
