Applying for De-Facto Visa

Post by Ainii » Sat Jan 31, 2015 5:15 pm

Heya,

I'm Irish and I've been with my Brazilian boyfriend (now fiance) for 16 months and we have been living together for the past year. We have a joint bank account, lots of proof of our relationship, and I just spent Christmas with his family in Brazil. Although we are engaged, we won't be getting married for a few years yet as we wan't to do it properly etc. It's his second year here on a student visa, where he studies English and works part time as are the requirements. His visa will expire in October when we'll have been together for 2 years. The visa and school costs are so high and he's now fluent in English and working part time at a crappy job. I'd like him to be able stay here, work in his field and enjoy a better life together. Anyone with any experience with this? I know it says you have to be together for 2 years, is this non negotiable or if you have sufficient proof etc might you be approved? Just wondering if there's any hope in trying. Any help is much appreciated! :)

First of all you should note that DOJ would accept your relationship that should last for at least 2 years. PLease have a look on the below link: http://inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/De%20F ... ationships
