Registering to vote in the May Elections

Post by zonkkk » Tue Mar 31, 2015 10:33 am

I have received my approval letter and want to register to vote for the May elections.
Can I do this before I attend my Citizenship Ceremony?

The ceremony is booked on April 22nd, but I think that would be to late to inform the council of a change in circumstance that would allow me to vote in May.

Thoughts?

No you are not a British Citizen till you attend ceremony.

You can however, book a private ceremony for £50 odd, then you have Citizenship in time. Many people do it, and that is what I did as I wanted to move job/place ASAP after BC, so I got approval and booked ceremony immediately, which occurred only two days after I got the approval.

Unfortunately, private ceremony is not an option. I guess I'll have to let other people make sure that the country doesn't end up in Nigel Farage's hands. :D

Fair enough, I'd go for it, as I had put £50 on credit card as I needed to be done with ASAP, before my company was done with doing its business  they were closing down.

What is your current nationality?

If you are a citizen of any Commonwealth country, you can register to vote in the General Election anyway.

I'm Romanian. We can only vote for local and European elections. :D
