You do not need indefinite leave to remain to become British under section 4B of the 1981 Act. If someone on the phone at the Home Office said you needed this it was wrong.

But you do need to show you were not an Indian citizen on 4 July 2002.

So you need to give details on:

- how did you get British Overseas citizenship;
- where were you born?
- where were your parents born?
- when did you first obtain a British Overseas passport?
- on what basis did you apply for an Indian passport?
- when and why was it cancelled?

And what country are you in currently, and what is your current status in that country

As far as I can see, you don't qualify, no. You need to show that "since after 4 July 2002, renounced, voluntarily given up or lost by any action or inaction any other citizenship or nationality:"

You've lost your Indian citizenship because of your action in getting a BOC.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.

You have been asked some pertinent questions in the second post on this thread. Unless you want to answer them, don't expect any meaningful assistance.

Also, there's a duplicated discussion going on in:
http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=18399

The thread should be continued there. This one is closed.
