Appplication sent on April 1st arrived 7th. New fees?

Post by nicensimpletweetie » Tue May 05, 2015 4:26 pm

Good afternoon.

I am in need of some help urgently.

I posted my application for naturalization to Home office on April 1st but it arrived on April 7th.

In the past the date of application has been the date that it was posted but it seems in this case it was treated differently. I was asked to provide additional fees. I am also concerned because the form that I filled in was the June 2014 form. So far they have only asked for fee and have said if I don't pay the application will be stopped but I am also worried about the form and it's biometric conditions.

Could someone please help to clarify this for me? I am panicking.

Thanks a million.

I think you should challenge, but remember you had the old form as well.
It is the date of your posting and NOT the date they receive.Alternatively, to make life easy, ask them to reject the form and do it properly

its your choice,If I were you, I will withdraw and do it properly

For naturalisation applications, the date of application is the date received by HO, not the date of posting.

Last paragrpah, bottom of page 21 in the AN guide.

Apologies, I was misinformed on the date of application received by HO.
I will take back my statement
Thanks CR

For visa extensions and ILR it is the date of posting, so almost correct :D

Best to pay up, not worth it for the sake of £99 increase. The old application will still be valid as you can use them up to 21 days after the new one is out, which is why you wasn't ask about it.

Good thing it wasn't ILR you were applying for as it had a £407 fee hike

Thanks CR

Remember the guy who take the fees will only look to debit fees.
Once he completes the task the next person will look at the form and he will say it's old form and I'm rejecting it..

Ask him to return it and fill the right form. Again it's your decision.

Good luck mate

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, I hadn't realized because in the past it was the date of postage that was used and so I thought that it would be okay until I saw the letter asking for more money. My instant thought was, 'Does the fact that they are taking the new fee mean a new application?'

Yes, you're right WR1. I will definitely just pay the £99. To be honest my main concern was if they are taking new fees what does that mean for the application, as the new form has that added biometric component.

I've read somewhere (can't remember where) - you won't get refused just because you've used an old form. The worst thing that can happen is they will ask you to submit your biometrics.

The form doesn't matter, they'll request whatever is missing if they want it.

It's nice of them to ask for the extra money, because technically an application is only valid if accompanied by the correct fee (among other things).

Indeed!
nicensimpletweetie has been very lucky they didn't reject the application and returned it, perhaps because it fell into exact date-bracket Home Office increased fees, they tolerated the overlook by applicant.

Application has now been rejected on the grounds that payment was not received despite the fact that I used the SAE and payment form given and sending it guaranteed next day delivery.

For weeks I have been contacting them as notice money not taken from account and they kept saying wait for 4 to 6 weeks and now all my documents have been returned and they say they will refund money in due course.

Letter was dated April 27th.
I received it Friday May 1st.
I replied May 6th.
They received it May 7th.
Application rejected June 6th.
They said I had two weeks to get back to them from the date on letter.

They said it can take between 4 - 6 weeks.

Why not call them?

Did you pay the £1005 and did you use NCS or did you send it yourself?

When I spoke to them they had said that at this time of the year it's taking longer to process applications which is understandable.

If you sent it through ncs, I wouldn't worry too much.
You can give them a call for your peace of mind.
