The Mediterranean migrant crisis

Post by JimCrawford » Sat May 16, 2015 1:31 am

I'd be interested in hearing people's opinions and solutions to the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean. Over 20,000 people have drowned attempting to cross into Europe. Simply harrowing and such a waste of life.

With continuing unrest in parts of Africa and the Middle East, people will be forced to flee to Europe in search of safety and a better life. It seems that a lot of Europeans are turning against migrants. As can be seen with the amount of people voting for xenophobic parties who have xenophobic policies. What can be done to help solve the situation?

Solving the situation can mean very different things depending on who you talk to.

Migrants have the right to want a better life, but EU countries also have the right to decide on who they are accepting as immigrants or not.

Of course the best solution for everyone would be to fix the situation in countries people are escaping from - but saying it is easier than actually doing it.

So no magic solution really.
