Kenyan British Overseas Citizen settling in Portugal...

Post by blowfish » Wed Sep 22, 2004 10:57 pm

Hi and thanks to those that can help me,

I want to be able to help a friend of mine that is a BOC and is from Kenya. He wants to be able to move and live in Portugal but isn't too sure of what to do. Is it possible for him to obtain the right to live there under EU law?

I have tried searching for this everywhere but all I can tell him is that I can only find information on BOTCs.

Any help would much appreciated, even if you can just point me in the right direction.

Regards
Blowfish

Here is the link from Home Office site.

You need to be in the UK for 5 years, and the last year of stay in the cannot be subjected to any time limit under the immigration laws. Good luck. :D

This link describes the requirements - the IND webiste was redesigned some weeks ago, and old links no longer work.

Blowfish,

The simplest way would be for your BOC friend to register as a British Citizen after which he would be free to live and work in Portugal as long as he wishes.
