Tier 2 General Extension

Hi,
Iam currently in Tier 2 General visa which expires in March 2016, given on September 2012 for 3 yrs. I am due for an extension with same employer, same role.


1. How early can i apply for extension? If applied early, will the extension start from the date the original visa expires or the application date?

2. will it be 2 yrs or 3 yrs extension?

are u sure u aplied in set 2012, as back then the tier 2 was issued for max of 3 years. so your dates dont add up.

u can apply whenever u want, even now. The extension will be according to expiry date on cos issued by employer.

Thanks again. Yes, since we switched from Tier 1 PSW to tier 2 general, UKBA allotted 3 years from the expiry date of tier1 PSW. That's why the dates not summing up.

And if the employer states 3 years for the extension, say march 2019? will it be 2 yrs or 3 yrs from the date of expiry? please help

If the employer states 3 years, it will be for 3yrs starting from your visa approval date of your extension.

Keep in mind that Tier 2 General visa will only be issued for a maximum of 6yrs. So if you've already spent 5yrs on Tier 2 general , and your next C0S for an extension states 3 yrs , you would only get another 1 year validity on your new visa.

Thanks for the response. Can you clarify if i apply early say November 2015,( visa expires on march 2015) the visa extension date will precede accordingly? will it be november 2018 or march 2019?

I presume you meant the visa expires on March 2016?

If yes, and you extend your T2 in Nov 2015, and it got approved -your new visa expiry date would be Nov 2018. Not March 2019.
