Well, do you not sign all of your letters?
They are not going to verify your signature with the bank or other body, to the best of my knowledge. But letters are invariably signed by the person issuing it. If you do not sign it, it becomes a summary note rather than a letter.
Cover letters are not a required part of any application. It just helps clarify or explain aspects of your application. But if you do attach one, I would suggest taking the extra pain of actually signing it.
