Tier 4 to tier 2 queries

Post by Santyroger » Thu Aug 06, 2015 3:55 pm

Hi everyone,

I am an international student doing my masters in UK. I am at my final phase of my MSc course, but things didn't went right.

I messed up with my project work and not sure I will be awarded my Masters degree.

When I asked my University staffs, they told if I am short of the total 180 credits for Masters degree, I will not be given a Masters degree, insted will be given an exit award like PostGraduate Diploma/PostGraduate Certificate

Meanwhile, I have secured a tier 2 job in UK. Now I am confused whether I can switch inside UK with my
PostGraduate Diploma/PostGraduate Certificate? or should I go back to my country to apply for tier 2 visa?

Because in the Home Office website, I saw the below conditions:
"
Switch from a Tier 4 or other student visa
You must have one of these qualifications from your student visa if you want to switch from a Tier 4 to a Tier 2 (General) visa:

a UK bachelors degree
a UK masters degree
a postgraduate certificate in education
a professional graduate diploma of education

"

Kindly advice me on the best possible route for my situation.

Thanks.

Unless you are training to be a "teacher", these do not apply to you. These are "teacher training" qualifications.

I am doing my Masters in Computing.

So, should I return to my home country for applying tier 2?

It is not a matter of whether you should, but that there is no other option for you because you will not be awarded a "degree" by your Tier 4 sponsor.
And, because you will be applying from outside UK you will need a restricted CoS from your employer.

Check if your diploma / certificate is listed in the PBS calculator, and whether the calculator awards any points to your qualification.

Before my MSc in uk, I have obtained my MBA and Bachelors in Engineering from an Indian University.

I gave these values in the PBS calculator and it displayed them as:

Country of award: State Qualification Institution Length of course Subject Grade Year of award Points for English language
India Tamil Nadu Master's degree (in professional subjects) Anna University 2 years or less than 3 Business / Economics / Management / Accounting / Finance 2013 10

Points for English - 10

So while applying for visa, will my Indian degrees be considered equivalent?

I gave my PG cert details into the pbs calculator
It is taking my PGCert as a valid qualification.
Is the PBSCalculator taking my PGcert as valid for switching my Tier 4 to tier 2,since i got it from a top class UK university? Still it doesn't count as a UK Masters degree, I am pretty not sure.

Please see the attachments.

I still can't come to a conclusion only a UK degree is valid [or] should give a try as the PBS calculator says.

Please suggest on my case.

Tier 2 restricted visa

Post by Santyroger » Tue Aug 25, 2015 8:15 pm

I came uk in tier 4 visa for doing a masters degree. But couldn't complete the degree and got a PG Certificate.
I got a non-eu bachelors and masters degree taught in English and recognized by UK [checked in PBS calculator].

My questions are:

If I get a tier 2 Certificate of sponsorship [restricted/unrestricted], can I switch to tier 2 visa inside the UK?

What will be my possible route to get a tier 2 General visa?

kindly advise.

The PBS calculator no longer assesses the validity of Tier 4 qualifications for Tier 2, so to suggest that you check PBS calculator was my mistake.
What it just shows now is acceptance of your qualification for the purpose of fulfilling English language requirement. But that is not what you are after, unfortunately.

Here's what the immigration rules state for Tier 4 migrant aiming to switch to Tier 2 (General):
245HD(d) wrote:(i) The applicant must have completed and passed:
  • (1) a UK recognised bachelor's or master's degree (not a qualification of equivalent level which is not a degree),
    (2) a UK Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Professional Graduate Diploma of Education (not a qualification of equivalent level),

or the applicant must have completed a minimum of 12 months study in the UK towards a UK PhD.
