i want to bring my wife over from pakistan...i work full time on shift work...half a year of lates where i get paid £9.50 a hour and half a year of early shifts where i get paid 8.25 so i earn £18700 a year...my employer only works out my salary on the lowest amount i earn..which is £8.25 a hour...giving me a salary of 17,000 ....but i clearly get £18,700...because i do shift work and get paid more for evenings....so will showing bank statements be enough to prove i qaulify...as my employer can only give me a letter of salary based on the lowest i can earn i.e based just on early shifts at £8.25...but like i say i do lates shifts too...which they dont add in my salary

Its not clear , what visa are you on , what visa you are trying to bring your wife from Pakistan.

mate as far as i know, you need 2 evidence to proof your income, one could be bank statement and other could be salary slips,

do not get letter from your employer, they always issue you salary slips showing what is your NET and GROSS Salaries... it should match your bank statements month by month..

any late shifts you do , must be in your salary slips and can match amount coming into your bank ..

Your advice is guaranteeing him a refusal.

IF he's applying for a spouse visa, it's part of the requirements to submit a letter from the employer. Plus there's no option of "could be" bank statements and payslips are a must and they both have to match.

I think your employment letter would be crucial. You would need to get your employer to write it down that you earn £18,700 per year gross due to difference in shifts and explain why it doesn't show that on your payslips.

The other thing is, for category A, you need to have £1550 per month gross pay every month for 6 months at least. If not, your only choice is category B, where you add up your gross pay for 12 months, but you still need a letter from your employer saying you earn over £18.600 currently.
