Surinder Singh Route

Post by Anndeep » Sat Sep 05, 2015 7:18 pm

Hello,
I need advice on two situations:

1. I have a British passport and want to bring my elderly mum from India as a dependent. I am happy to move to Ireland. My questions are:
- How long do I need to be in Ireland (3, 6, 12 months or more)
- What documents do I need for myself
- Do i need to become an EU National
- Do I need to show job, open a bank account, pay taxes? What else is required?

2. When and how can I make my Mum dependent
- Does she have to come and live with me in Ireland or can remain in India
- When can I take her to UK

Thanks
Ann

You already are an EU national if you are a British Citizen. You just need to exercise your treaty rights. There is already abundance of information about that on this forum

What does it mean by exercising my treaty rights?

Working, studying or self-sufficient (with conditions). As an extended family member you will need to prove that your mother is wholly dependent on you. You must show that you have 'moved the centre of your life' to another EU state, in this case Ireland. This means you'll need to rent accommodation, open a bank account, find employment or enrol for study. 6+ months is advised. If the UK authorities believe that you moved to Ireland with the prior intention of using the Surinder Singh route in order to bring your mother here, they will refuse the application due to 'circumventing the Immigration rules'.

Casa this is very helpful, information. Thank you.

Do I have to bring my mother to Ireland and then bring her to UK or she can stay in India?

Do I have to apply for my mother to become my dependent while I am in Ireland?

What forms do I need to complete to bring my mother to UK from Ireland?

So once I am in Ireland on what visa do I invite my mother to come to Ireland? Can she stay for 6 months or longer?

Also what is EEA permit?
