Does Home Office carry out financial checks

Hi I have a quick question and reply if you are 100% sure.
Does Home Office run a financial check to find out how many bank accounts, credit cards and loans on an applicant's name?
If someone is on Asylum and claims for accommodation and NAS support then does the Home Office carry out the Financial check?
