Short Term Dependent T2 visa eligibility to work

Hello,

I have came to UK in July 2015 on T2 short term dependent visa which is valid till May 2016. Need to know if I am eligible to work in UK till May 2016. Heard from my friend that it is only eligible to work if I have T2 long term dependent visa. So, slightly confused now if I can work or not on Tier 2 Short term dependent Visa.

Unless your visa states - 'Work restricted', you should be able to work but not as doctor/dentist in training.

My visa states "RESTRICTED WORK NO DR/DEN TRAIN OR SPORTSPERSON"

Does this means that i cannot work in UK for IT firm as a software engg?

You should be fine. You are restricted from working as Doctor/Dentist in training or as sportsperson. You should be able to work otherwise. If it gives you any piece of mind, my wife worked as my dependent on a Tier 2 ICT Short term staff visa ( visa length about 11 months) until May 2014.
