Visa to visit to Iceland

Post by Imbikramghosh » Sun Nov 01, 2015 5:22 pm

I have a schengen business visa that I had taken for travel to Poland. This visa is valid till Jan 2016. However I did not travel to Poland since the visit was cancelled.

I am now planning to visit Iceland for tourism in the month of Decmber 2015. Can I use the same visa for this visit?

Not necessarily. It depends on what category of Schengen visa you have been issued.
If it is a Limited territorial validity visa (LTV), this type of visa allows you to travel only in the Schengen State that has issued the visa or in some other cases, in the certain Schengen States specifically mentioned when applying for the visa. Apart from these Schengen countries, this specific visa is invalid to any other Schengen country not specified prior.
It would also follow that as you applied for a visa for a specific business meeting in Poland, this will no longer be the case as you now want to travel to Iceland for tourism. It would be wise to contact the Icelandic consulate in the UK before travelling.

I doubt very much that the OP was given a LTV visa, that type of visa is issued in very peculiar cases such as a humanitarian reason or under international obligation as an exception to the common USV system (Uniform Schengen Visas). This type of visa may apply for individuals who don’t possess a valid travel document yet have to travel to a Schengen area on an emergency of any kind.

Please let us know what kind of visa did you get, and then we can coment on it

Technically yes. But practically it may cause problems next time you wish to apply for a visa to visit Poland. On this forum, there is a story about a spouse who had trouble getting a third Belgian Schengen visa as a result of failing to visit Belgium on the previous visa issued by them (see http://www.immigrationboards.com/europe ... 21011.html). I would advise you to contact or visit the Polish embassy for advice first.
