Hi,
A friend of mine applied for British Citizenship but his application was refused because he failed to report at the immigration office to sign. He has been advised to re-apply in 5yrs time, please can you advise me on what he can do in this case.

You will need to provide more information on his full immigration history for anyone to give a meaningful response.

For example, did he have any period where he was an overstayer. This is an automatic ground for refusal.

He would be able to reapply 10 years from the date that his stay in the UK became legal.

Hi,
Thank you so much for your quick response. The person in question is already legal in the State with 5yrs resident permit here in the Uk.

And what was the persons immigration status before the 5 years residence permit?

If he was required to sign on at an immigration centre, this indicates that he was an illegal immigrant or an overstayer at some point.

What exactly does the residence permit say? There are difference kinds and they have different requirements.

Sorry for my late response. The person in question was an Asylum seeker. They issued him work permit as at that time, he got caught at work with expired work permit. He was later granted resident permit on humanitarian ground.
