How many years given on hsmp extension?

I have read this forum, some people say it is 3 years when you apply first extension and some say 4 years when you apply for first extension. Which is true, when you apply for hsmp extension, do they give for 4 years or 3 years?

Generally, if your initial visa was for one year, you are given a 4 year extension. If your initial visa was for 2 years the extension is granted for 3 years. Of course the course worker does have the power to give the extension for less than the this as I have heard of persons who have been given only a 1 year extension, but these cases seem few and far between.

Both are true.
-A Person with initial approval of 1 year will NORMALLY get 4 years extension
-A Person with iniital approval of 2 year will NORMALLY get 3 years extension.

I have higlited normally because this all depends on CW discretion. SO do not take for granted
