HSMP approved - time limit after EC to travel

I have a few questions which you guys could answer:
I understand that within 6 months of HSMP approval i need to apply for a Entry Clearance. My questions are :
1. For how much time would the EC be valid
2. What is the time frame after EC approval that i need to travel to the UK?
3. Could i goto UK for a week and return and then go at a later point of time?
