Visitor visa - proof of funds

Post by mike#23 » Sat Mar 26, 2016 10:02 am

Hi All,

I have a quick question about the standard visitor visa - hope someone will be able to help!

I live and work in the UK as an EU national and I have a South American girlfiriend. She was in the UK on a student visitor visa, however she came back a couple of months ago. She would like to return to the UK to do a few university visits (her intention is to study Master's in the UK) and to spend some more time with me.

As she only returned back home recently, she does not have a job which might be an obstacle for her visitor visa to be granted. Therefore, I would like to certify that I will provide her financial support during the trip as she is a very important person in my life and we are planning our future together.

The question is - would it be possible for me to provide the proof of funds for her trip? Could it impact the chances of obtaining the visa? Maybe someone had a similar situation in the past, hence I would appreciate if you could share your experience.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Regards,
Mike

You may find this article helpful as it sets out the requirements in simple terms. The main issue will be for your girlfriend to show strong ties to her home country in order to convince the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) that she won't overstay her visa.

I've assumed that you have legal residence here and are 'exercising your Treaty rights' in the UK.
