Post by krssubbu » Wed Mar 30, 2016 7:57 pm

Hi,

my mother was issued 6 months visa but she has been in the UK only for 3 months. Can she extend her family visa in country (UK) ? if so how long for and how much is the fee ?

Thanks

Not unless there are extreme compassionate circumstances. i.e medically unfit to travel.
(Casa, not CR001)

In addition to Casa's advice, see link below.

https://www.gov.uk/standard-visitor-vis ... -your-visa

Fee by post is £811 and for in person £1311
Char (CR001 not Casa)

While a visit visa is issued for 6 months, I would suggest that it is best that your mother does not stay here for 6 months at a time.

Visit visas are meant for short visits; 2 weeks to a month a couple of times a year.

Regular visits to the UK and staying the full six months look like de facto residence (which is forbidden on a visit visa) and not visits and may make future visit visas difficult to get.

Search on these forums for people who have had that issue.

And I think there may well be underlying reasons to avoid that - 180 days or so is when you could become tax resident (which isn't the same as domiciled or ordinarily resident) - so the way HMRC is going, they might want a chunk of the visitors earnings for that year.

Bit far-fetched, but look on the ILR forums, HMRC getting very keen on squeezing people by the balls until they bleed....
