Does working visa has been replaced by the Green card ?

Post by elbet » Wed Nov 21, 2007 8:48 pm

Does anyone renewed his working visa - stamp 4 lately ? I hope GNIB renewed it with no problem .
I am heading next week to renew mine and hopefully I won't be informed that Green Card replaced it , as Green Card as far as I can see is not of any benefit over working visa .

Actually the 'green card' is more beneficial in that after 2 years it is renewed indefinately and you can also apply for a 5 year permission to remain stamp after the 2 years.

If you currently hold a work visa you can continue to renew it.

Thanks joesoap101

Green Card would be better options for new commers to the country . Bear in mind that you only get stamp 1 with the new green card system .
regards

Really? I didn't know that- how do you know you get stamp 1? Well it doesn't really matter because you can change employment and its for 2 years , like I've said after which you can apply for a 5 year stamp- approx 3 years as apposed to 6 years any other way is most definately beneficial, but seeing that the work authorisation/visa has been stopped it is no longer important, except to those who previously held same and wish to continue making use of the scheme.

Green card > Stamp 1 , check this link

It is true you have the right to change employer under greend card scheme , but you or your new employer has to apply for a new green card !! means another 1000 or 1500 Euros + waiting time ( GOD knows how long ) .

Irish immigration is a sad joke really- stamp 1 is given to people who are granted "green cards"- stamp 4 would've made much more sense. I'm becoming increasingly skeptical as to whether the DOJ will actually grant the 5 year long term residency stamp after 2 years.

Sounds like a waste of money to me really- it was brought in to make it more attractive to skilled immigrants- hopefully theyre skilled enough to chose another option such as the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand who actually grant you real permanent residence which means exactly that, not a 5 year stamp which has to be renewed!!

joe

we went thr this topic before already. they might give you 5 years stamp. but would they give you a gnib card for 5 years????? you know the answer. plus, like i explained before. if people on work authorization/work visa. they better off stay on it because at least they can change job as they wish without apply for a new work authozation/ work visa. after all, work authorization/work visa still better then the green card.
