Indian Passport for Child born in India

Post by san38 » Mon May 30, 2016 11:41 am

Dear Experts,
I couldn't find the necessary info for my situation, please help (excuse me if its duplicated)

My child was born in India April when both me and my wife were Indian Citizens with Indian Passport.

Now I am naturalized BC and will be getting British passport soon.

I will be travelling to India in August (hopefully with OCI if not with Tourist Visa)

During that period, I need to apply for Indian passport for my Child.

The passport website says both parents should have valid passports with spouse names endorsed in that.

I am confused how to approach and what sort of documents that I should provide.

Can someone please help me in this regard?

Just a few days ago the Delhi High Court reiterated that mother's name is sufficient for a passport although that's probably not relevant for you as you'd like your name to be there on your child's passport. Still as a contingency it's good to know this.

Anyway - my old Indian passport did not have my wife's name endorsed on it, but my wife's old Indian passport had my name on it. We got all our documents for our child (getting certified as Indian citizen, first Indian passport, passport surrender, Indian Visa, later OCI) on the basis of those. Never had a problem.

You (or someone on your behalf) should try speaking to your local Passport Seva Kendra and see what they say. I would advise giving the following documents:

- Indian court marriage certificate for you and your wife
- Your cancelled Indian passport (it would be great, but not mandatory, if that shows your wife's name)
- Your Indian passport surrender certificate
- Your certificate of naturalisation (copy) and British passport (copy)

Hopefully this should be enough. Please post back on this forum so we know how it turned out.

Though its very late, i think someone might find it useful.

My scenario was:

Father - British Passport holder
Mother - Indian passport holder (without spouse name endorsed)
Child born in India (before father acquire BC)

Procedure:

Book online appointment for nearest PSK, for Mother to renew/re-issue passport forspouse name addition and new passport application for child (both simultaneously).

documents:
Application forms (will get them after filling online, both father and mother needs to sign on child application)
Mother's old passport
Fathers British passport
Marriage certificate
Birth certificate of Child
(original and copies)

First they will process Mother's passport application and then use the same reference number as input to child passport application.

May be since PSK in my area was outsourced to private company the process was very smooth transparent.

I got both passport within 15 days. No police verification as well (since child was infant)

Hope this helps
