Applied for EC asked to go for medicals

Hi,

I have had a strange experience.

I submitted my EC application today in Calcutta. The official after scrutinising and accepting all the documents gave me a form to go for my medicals next week.

I tried to explain to her that I have been based in UK for the past 3 years, but she said that I needed to go for the medicals.

I am quite confused. What does this mean. I was normally under the impression that medicals are required after approval not before.

Would be glad if someone could respond.
