Work Permit Renewal

My husbands work permit expires in May 2008 (granted for 3 years initially). He is an accountant and should be receiving his membership from the ACCA shortly. He intends to work at the same place with a salary of 26k and share options in the company. For how many more years should he apply his work permit for? Is it a good idea to have the shares, since this will have to be disclosed on the forms. Any advices on how to proceed with this renewal?

Form WP1x.

it is a good idea to apply for a 5 year extension, in case the rules for ILR are changed again.
