References needed again for passport?

Post by Kaba » Sat Aug 06, 2016 10:37 pm

Hi guys,

Just a quick question which might sound funny to you all.

Apart from the 2 references we need for the naturalisation, do we need later for the passport application again references if we chose to do the application on our own and not go to an ncs??

Thanks

If applying by post without using NCS, you can only apply for a passport AFTER you have been approved and attended your ceremony and yes, you will need referees again for the passport application.

If you use NCS, you could apply using the JCAP scheme (joint citizen and passport application) where you submit both form AN and passport at the same time.

You can also use NCS for just form AN and do the passport after ceremony if you wish to. NCS does not do stand alone passport applications.

As CR001 has mentioned, you cannot apply for a joint citizenship and passport application on your own. First you must apply for citizenship, attend the ceremony and when you become a British Citizen, then apply for a passport as a seperate application for which you will fill in all the details including the referee section.

The joint scheme (JCAP) in only available through the NCS and not all NCS offer this, only a selected number.

As far as I am aware, it has been rolled out to many NCS's now.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your help.

Assuming though that I apply on my own for naturalization and later for a passport, does anybody know where I can find the online application form for the passports which says that references are needed again? I checked online, but I cannot find the form.

Thanks

Hi guys,

That's interesting. I think I will go for the joint application through ncs then which will save me a lot of time.

Thanks

If we go through JCAP :-

- Would the referees for naturalisation be sufficient for passport application ?
- Would the photos be needed extra for passport application? Do they need to be countersigned?

Thanks

1) The countersignatory section of the passport form doesn't need to be filled.
2) You need to provide the requested passport photos for the passport application, but they don't need to be countersigned.

See the instructions on the council website you're applying through. E.g. http://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/info/20051 ... rvice_jcap

Thanks.

The council I am applying through doesn't have any such instructions on their webpage.

One more thing, can the council take payment (like the post office) ?

No, they only submit the applications along with completed payment forms to the HO/HMPO on your behalf.

If details not published on the council website, I'd call them to enquire whether they offer the JCAP service. If you do a Google search you will get many hits for councils that offer this, from what I could see most of them have published the same instructions.
