Life in UK Test-Passport with Home Office

Post by helpingperson » Sat Aug 20, 2016 2:26 pm

Hello

Does anyone know if one can book and take Life in the UK test without having passport as it is with Home Office?

Can someone use any other form of ID other than passport or Resident Card?

Any suggestions please.

Thank you.

My understanding is you can request passport back for that very purpose. Search forum.

Hello noajthan

After some research on forum and on google, found that Full UK driving license is acceptable form of ID. Please could you kindly confirm this is correct as don't want to make mistake?

I would prefer not to withdraw my passport from HO if possible.

Accepted forms of ID

You can use one of the following as ID to book the test:

passport - it can be out of date
UK photocard driving licence - full or provisional
convention travel document (CTD), certificate of identity document (CID) or stateless person document (SPD)
EU identity card
immigration status document endorsed with a UK residence permit on a passport with a photo - it can be out of date
biometric residence permit

Dear helpingperson,

I can confirm that you can use the driving licence for life in the uk rest.

I passed my test last week with driving licence & a recent proof of address. My passports are with the ukvi.

I booked the test with my biometric card but then had to apply for a visa for another country, so I went in and changed to driving license. It worked fine - no questions asked :)
