You bett, It can be really diffcult to make the choice. It gives me sleepless nights sometimes.
In truth, my company is in the middle of a takeover and no one knows what the results might be. This is still shaping out and it will take its own time. Nobody's job is safe. My boss himself suggested that I save myself the ignomity of loosing a job by applying for HSMP and ensuring I have legal status of staying in the country even if I am made redundant.
Now thats the tricky part.. redundancy payouts are generally good settlements. If there is no redundancy then there is generally a decent bonus at the end of the year plus my long standing salary adjustment due at the end of year.
The million dollar question is - what would you prefer - redundancy with a decent settlement or resign and take up a new job. Without HSMP I would have choosen the second, now with an approval in hand, I am spoilt for choices. I am inclined to getting my FLR stamped and thus when the approval comes I will hopefully still be employed and will be entering my HSMP 1 year trail being employed, salaried and economically "active". Or maybe the whole thing will crumble and the sky will fall on my head, I will be scurrying for cover and searching for a new job made easier with an HSMP stamp. Either ways its not the end of the world
