Expired Passports and Visit Visa

Hi All

I am inviting my parents over to UK for 3 week visit, Recently they have renewed their passports.

When we apply for thier visit visa, do they have to submit expired passports, although they have no visa's or travel history as its their first time travelling UK/abroad.

Also, I am only paying for hotel during their stay in UK rest will be taken care by my parents themselves. For part sponsorship I have provided them with;

1. Invitation Letter
2. Passport and visa
3. 6 month payslip
4. Job/employment letter

Do I need to give them my bank statements as well and how much?(if needed), alhtough I am only paying for their hotel.
