Spouse visa Further enquiries and HMRC checks

Dear Moderators and Senior members

Please can any one tell me how long Home Office takes to complete the further enquiries if the Spouse visa extension (FLRM) decision is not made same day at Premium Service Centre (Croydon)?

I believe Home Office conducts checks with HMRC but I really need to know whether Home Office conducts these checks over the phone or in writing with HMRC. How long usually this HMRC verification process takes?

I will be grateful if anyone can share their knowledge experience of further enquiries.

If HO suspects that there are discrepancies in tax matters then definitely can enquire from HMRC and hold the case until it's clears. Usually the communication between HO and HMRC is conducted in writing.
