Urgent Help needed - Expired Travel Document

My friend's travel document is expired on August 2013 and he want invite his mother to come and short stay with via visit visa. Is his expiry travel document will give any issues to his mother's visit application? Please help me to help him. Thank you all

Travel document as in gained through through asylum claim or discretionary leave. The fact that is out of date is meaningless in terms of supporting a visit visa.
What is probably more important is the ties his mother has to her home country to ensure her return home.
