Bank account for dependent (17)

Dear Gurus,

If I opened a personal bank account for my son (17 years old) for two reasons:
1-For his expenditure.
2-Getting a statements to confirm his address.(our family address), to show that he lives with us.

Does HO consider that my son is independent because he has his own account?? He lives with us.

...independent of/in a family unit, as used, from my own opinion only means if he has his own private family (wife/partner...and kids, if any)
