During the ceremony, the guy from the passport office said it could take 4-6 weeks. I hope it would be quicker than that. Can ask you, any reason to use passport express instead of applying in person?

Congrats to you too.

Sorry I meant apply through an appointment at the passport office. I already have an appointment for Wednesday but not sure if I should keep it or just use passport express on Monday. Thought applying at the passport office was best as they could review the documents there and then and if something needs rectification they can advice me?

No worries i gottcha..
Well appointment you need to do if you need your passport for urgent reason such travel, family emergency.
You need to provide the prove of ergency..
Anyways they don't check any documents on the spot they verify each documents via relavant department..
They do it quick if you have appointment only and the date u mention to them before you need it..
Passport express is easy for us and honestly many ppl got their passport with in 6 or 7 working days if see some previous cases..
However for appointment you need to pay extra almost 80 euro..as well as prove why you need it before time..
If you post by passport express they receive it on the next day and won't delay if there no big que..

Thanks. I might cancel the appointment tonight and use passport express service instead. I have no plans for urgent travels anyway. Cheers.

First-time passport applications cannot be expedited so the emergency passport does not apply in this case. The fee for applying at the Passport Office counter in Dublin or Cork it’s €95.00, Passport Express it’s €80.00 + €9.00 Post Office charge.

Hey pukon_check

Have you used the online tracking yet? Has your application number been added to the database yet? Just asking to know how long after sending your documents you can start tracking your passport online.

You can start tracking from the day your application is lodged.

No can't track on DFA sites straight away if you use passport express..once you submit in the passport express,it has to receive in the passport office by them and they have to update in the DFA passport tracking so then u can see..however I did submit on Saturday but the post office lady says check tracking system from Tuesday evening..
Because still i can't see it DFA sites ..
You can only see your passport status if you go by appointment and then less than 3 hours they update in DFA passport tracking..
So if you posted yesterday wait till today evening..
I mean you need to give atleast a day to the passport express to send passport office..
Hope it helps..
How did you submit your passport application??

I too submitted my passport application yesterday afternoon using Passport Express.

A few minutes ago, I tracked the package on An Post's website using the item number that starts with "PX". I saw that it was delivered and thus decided to track the application on the DFA website. I wasn't expecting it to be there but it is already in their tracking system with the "Application Received" status! It also says that the estimated issue date for my passport is 30/05/2017 which is 5 weeks away.

I wouldn’t expect to see any changes in the progress bar this week since we just lodged the application, mine says “Application received” and nothing else.

They are probably doing checks now so I would wait one or two weeks to see any progress.

I do see some progress in my progress bar (see snapshot below). However, I don't think it means anything substantial at this point as my status reads "Application received" in spite of the progress bar filling a bit every day.
Image

I think it merely indicates the passage of time since the date of application. For example, today's date falls at 9% progress between my application received date and my estimated issue date. The progress bar seems to be about 9% full as well. I could be wrong about this.

Did you try using the tracking system on a different browser? In any case, I wouldn't put too much stock on the progress bar.

Yes indianzeplin
My tube is pretty similar like urs..but didn't try in different browser tho..not sure if it's makes any difference..
Well it's shows the progress in the tube..
On the other hand I think all applications are moving forward..
Sometimes they update or sometimes they update all together few stages..
Like max03 I'd expect huge changes in few weeks..and it's true passport office is mad busy now..
And as first timer we can't except ours atleast before 4 weeks..
My mate one is stable no changes in the tube at all like max03..
Any I m happy tube is filling bit by bit every working days..

Hi there,

Just to share mine here:

Booked the appointment online before the ceremony and found out that I was right to do so - the appointment were booked out in the next couple weeks.

The reason why I booked the appointment was because they can check all docs in case of incomplete application submitted and delay the progress. It was only 5.5 euro difference between appointment & Express and I think it's worth it.

I went to Cork office and they did not mention about the application would be slower than others for first timer.

They checked my application, docs and took the money, then I was advised the date of collection.

I got the tracking progress straight away because the application was lodged over the counter.

Good luck everyone :)
