PIO Card to OCi for Minor

Hello Members,

I’ve a question on PIO card. My son has PIO card which was applied after our ILR in the UK back in July 2013. The PIO card is valid until July 2018, same month expiry as his first British passport.

I have read on Indian High Commission and VFS website is that all PIO cards are being converted to OCI and this has to be done by end of June 2017.

My question really is do I have to get the PIO converted to OCI for him now or can I wait until July next year and when his British passport is renewed then we will apply for his OCI?

Please advise.

As par VFS web site

The last date for submission of applications for registration as OCI cardholder by the erstwhile PIO cardholders has been extended till 30 June 2017.

I assume by this, they may start charging afterwards.
