Was the father born in Ireland or Northern Ireland? If so, then the child is already an Irish citizen and can apply directly for an Irish passport.

If the child was born in Northern Ireland, it does not matter if the father is Irish born or not.

Assuming child was born in Great Britain, If the father is Irish by descent, or naturalisation, child is not Irish unless an application for Foreign Birth Registration is made.

Does the child have a British passport?
