Acceptable ID -Question for those applied for HSMP extension

Post by tech » Fri Nov 19, 2004 8:49 pm

Experts/Kaya/All

Candidates who have applied for HSMP extension with passports, what kind of Identification seems to be acceptable in lieu of a passport ? (apart from Full UK driving license).

I think everybody need to go thru that cycle sooner or later. It would be helpful for everybody who is up for renewal in coming months.

Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance

We sent them passports so that our passports can be stamped for next 3 years. We didn t send them for any identification. So no need to send any identification document like full driving license but passports are necessary to send them to get stamped for next three years.

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry, May be I did not make myself clear. When your passport is not avaiable if you want make a financial transactions or do something very important, which requires Identifcation, what seems to be acceptable Identifcation apart from Full UK driving license.

please share your thoughts.

Many of the places (esp. financial or govt in nature) will either want to see a passport or a driving license as identification. They will not accept any other. Even your driving license is authenticated after validating your passport and thats why it is acceptable. Other forms of identification are generally discouraged.

Other places ask for any photo identification therefore something like an employee id card (if you have one) or a season ticket etc should be acceptable.

tech,

In many cases, especially for opening a/c in person, you can also show a recent tax code notification issued by the IR instead of passport/driving licence or if sending the documents by post, many instituions will accept a recent bank statement as proof of name and the address can be confirmed by using a different bank/credit card statement, utility bill etc. See if such a combination is possible - you might be able to pull it off with needing a passport/driving licence. I have used both methods successfully, since the HO has been incubating my passport and my driving licence is not UK issued.
