Which visa status ?

Which visa status is better ?
Is HSMP better than WP ? As I have seen many people trying to change their status from WP to HSMP ?
In what sense HSMP is better that WP ? Because what I know is, on WP you get 5 years stay straight away. Whereas on HSMP , you get 2 years first , and then after 2 years you have to apply for further 3 years extension of HSMP before you apply for ILR.

A Work Permit is specific to one employer, unlike HSMP.
