Convincing prospective employer to issue Firm Offer Letter

Post by paresh1 » Sun Nov 28, 2004 12:16 pm

Can anybody advice me about how should I convince the prospectie employers to issue a firm offer letter. Currently many employers have shown interest in my profile, but as soon as they come to know that I have not yet got the HSMP Visa which is pending with home office they are shying away. They prefer to consider me only if I have the Visa. Nobody wants to issue the firm offer letter even after informing them it is a requirement of home office for priority processing. I am a Chemical engineer working in Chemical Industry in UK.

Also could anybody guide me about the period required to get priority HSMP Visa (based on firm offer letter) and period to get FLR(IED). I had applied in first week of September.

In my case, they were willing to have a work permit issued, so helping me get HSMP was not much different. Their letter did say that the offer was subject to me obtaining the HSMP visa (it was a provisional job offer letter), so they were not bound to give me the job in case I didn't get approval.

i think the problem the employers might have with 'helping' you get HSMP is that once you get it you are no longer 'bound' to them, so they would really prefer you to be on a WP.

Ask for a conditional job offer which states that the job is yours subject to you getting appropriate visa status to take up employment in the UK.
