Germany: Non-EU - Aufsthaltstitel or Aufenthaltskarte?

Hello,

I would like clarification on the following question please:

Should the non-EU spouse of a UK citizen in Germany be provided with the aufenthaltstitel or aufenthaltskarte, or both?

My partner applied at the ausländerbehörde for the aufenthaltskarte under the FreizügG / EU, which ought to provide a Article 10 Residence Card as we meet all of the required criteria under EU law.

We have recently received a letter in the post for the electronic residence permit. Have the ausländerbehörde applied for the wrong card, or do we first need the aufenthaltstitel, followed by the aufenthaltskarte?

They should issue the Aufenthaltskarte. It should be valid for 5 years. So they issued wrong card in your case.

The Aufenthaltskarte get be printed from the same printing house than the residence permit.
Maybe a word mismatch in the letter to you after the latest bulk of cards got delivered.

Just in case this is of any help to somebody in the same situation: The letter that they sent us was in fact wrong or not relevant. At the appointment today we received the 5 year Aufenthaltskarte!
