Getting an update for application status over the phone

I just phoned the Ukvi contact centre to get an update for my application status but they said “they can’t give any information over the phone, you need to send a letter to your case worker team and ask for an update”
Has anyone same experience ?

YES. If you call them more than once in a month.

you can get update only one time in month after that you need to wait for 1 month.
