Tier 2 Dependant - IHS - Exempt based on Visa Route

Post by Fewquestions213 » Tue May 01, 2018 8:53 am

Hello all

I just completed my wife's Tier 2, General Dependent application and when asked to fill in details for IHS, one of the questions was whether she was joining someone in the UK to which I clicked 'yes'. So the next question asked if she had the IHS number of the person she was joining (i.e me as the sponsor) and when I entered my IHS number, the response was "Exempt based on Visa Route". I did not have to pay anything.

I then received an e-mail that stated "Immigration health surcharge successful" and she was issued with her own IHS number.

My question: Is this correct? Or did I do something wrong?

She has to pay IHS. There are no visa categories that are 'exempt'.

Thank you so much for the reply.

What would you suggests we do in this instance? She's been issued with her own IHS number as I mentioned in the post above. Do we register for IHS again and make the payment?

HO will likely email you to make the IHS payment. It could cause a delay.

Thank you, I hope they do e-mail. It was confusing because I spent all these months preparing to make the payment and then as I go through the payment portal, and answer the questions honestly, I receive a message saying 'Exempt based on visa route'. I didn't expect that the portal would ask whether she was joining me and that it would request my IHS number.

Thank you and I'll keep everyone posted so that we can all learn from this. Hopefully it's not a sad lesson!Image

Never heard of it asking for the sponsoring spouse IHS number. Are you sure you did not misread the question?

I really believe I read the questions correctly. I made sure I had time on the weekend to do the payments without any distractions. I took a screenshot of the message in the end but didn't think to take of the questions as I went through them.

In the event that I misread the question, is the HO likely to ask for the IHS payment still or does this become a basis for rejection? Trying to be prepared for any response / outcome.

Hi,

Can you please share if you got an email from HO regarding IHS payment ? Did it cause any delays or were you able to sort it out somehow before ?
