No Recourse to Public Funds - Scotland Baby Box

Post by nickmpco » Thu May 10, 2018 1:25 pm

Hi All,

In Scotland, everybody newborn baby is eligible to receive a "baby box" which is a collection of gifts for the newborn baby (including a small bed). I am slightly concerned that this might constitute public funds, however. I have spent quite a lot of time asking around about this (even to the relevant folks who provide the baby box), and nobody has been able to give me a definitive answer. Although, most seem to think I am probably eligible to receive this. This is the list that I am referring to http://www.nrpfnetwork.org.uk/informati ... funds.aspx.

After reviewing what might constitute public funds, I believe the only concern is whether this would constitute as a "discretionary welfare payment."

Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated.

The public funds defined by the government you can find from this link -

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... blic-funds

For public funds you usually have to apply through council or job centre plus.

Your baby box is NOT public funds, like marriage allowance since 2015 is NOT public funds. As long as the benefit you received is NOT in the list of public funds, it is NOT public funds!

You can also find the detail further (which is very detail) -
